Jets Hard Knocks - Some Thoughts

Finally watched the Jets edition of Hard Knocks edition the other night. I'm not sure if I feel the show is becoming too formulaic, or it's just hard for me, as a Giants fan, to watch the Jets act like they're the biggest show in town, but I was a little bit bored by it. Hope it gets better, I'll be sticking in. Here are some thoughts from the first episode:

1) Show opens with two white men who have never (and will never) put their bodies in harms way on a football field, giving each other contracts and patting themselves on the back. * I can only imagine what Darrell Revis thought of that. Stay home dude til you get the guaranteed money that these two fat older dudes are getting!

* Only Rex Ryan got his contract in that scene, but we also know that GM Mike Tannenbaum signed a new contract recently as well.

2) I always knew Rex Ryan was incredibly fat (he makes me look small). With Hard Knocks, I now realize how heavily he breaths too. It was uncomfortable to listen to him lecture the team about their "one goal" as he gulped in air between each sentence. Star Jones should play him in the movies.

3) Note to HBO - The Jets play (and for the most part practice) in New Jersey. Not New York, and certainly not New York City.

4) Note to HBO (2) - The building you saw demolished in the beginning of the episode? That was called Giants stadium. The Jets were always 2nd class citizens in that stadium, and they knew it. Stop trying to re-write history and worry about the supposed history in the making.

5) Every time Joe Namath is on TV it's just sad. Whether he's drunk and hitting on a chick, or, like in HK, wearing white shorts pulled up way too high with a 3 stooges haircut, it's just sad. And watching him lecture the coaching staff as they patronizingly listened to him was sadder than sad.

6) Joe Namath Note - He may be the "greatest" Jet ever, but let's stop kissing his ass. He got lucky when he won Super Bowl III and just look at his numbers. Lifetime he's 77-108, with 173 touchdowns v 220 interceptions. I.E. - maybe Mark Sanchez should hold the ball any way he feels comfortable.

7) Joe Namath Note (2) - Joe's daughter is hot.

8) It was nice to see that the Jets give their players conjugal visits.

9) Not enough time spent with the rookies trying to make it to camp, some having their dreams busted, others living the dream.

10) Just a reminder - when it comes to Super Bowls, the Giants have 3, the Jets have 1. The Giants last won in 2007, the Jets in 1969. Get over yourselves dudes!

  1. I think the best way to describe Joe is that he's become a caricature of himself. I have no dog in this race being a Browns fan, but, seriously, time for Broadway Joe to go back into hiding.. oofa.

  2. I have to agree with all points made, especially Joe Namath's ridiculous haircut and feeble frame. One note, Rex Ryan has terrible veneers. It seems like they impede his speech and are definitely way too white. I realize that's incredibly knit-picky but watching him talk was distracting.

  5. I agree with the points you made here. Especially about Joe's daughter. She is hot, but I could tell she was only there because she wanted to be on TV. Otherwise, she probably has nothing to do with him, or his bad haircut. As far as the Jets go, they're the best they will be all season, right now in training camp. Fuck 'em. And Jason, your template sucks. That is all.

  7. I love you Jets/Giants fans saying "its our stadium" You play in New Jersey, why would you ever want to claim anything from New Jersey as "mine"? The Bears don't play in Gary, IN. Also, who cares college football is where it's at!!

Try less blogging and try improving Howard's website. It's horrible (like your voice).

  17. As a die hard Giants fan, I can't stand the Jets and their fans thinking we should step aside and let them stand alone in the spotlight after one moderately successful season. And I live in San Diego, I can't imagine how bad it is out there.
